North West-based firm Walker Engineering has today announced a record start to the year, with a host of new projects won across the UK.
With total new projects worth over £1.2m in 2023 alone, the Skelmersdale firm has utilised the strength of its team to enter new markets, as well as other new territories in the country. In March alone, the award-winning firm successfully completed and invoiced record figures.
Recent significant wins have come in Northern Ireland (Belfast) and Scotland, meaning the company is now able to say that it operates right across the UK. Other notable wins include a pipework and vessel install in Lutterworth, a building and pipework project in Belfast, pipework and process plant upgrades for a project in Cranwell, and a further pipework install in Perth. Other projects include the installation of a steel access walkway to a tank farm in Manchester, and an export project in which 2No 25m steel hoppers are to be exported to Texas in June.
Growing its team by 11% from 26 to 29 in 2023, Walker Engineering is actively looking to recruit trainee fabricators, welders, pipefitters and mechanical & electrical engineers. The business is also continuing to unearth the next wave of talent in the sector, with project manager Ryan Green recently spearheading a campaign to recruit five new apprentices in various roles.
Moreover, the firm has signed up to the Lancashire Skills Pledge – an initiative that works with local businesses to upskill, recruit, and inspire the people of Lancashire. This will mean the company will continue to develop its relationship with local schools and colleges in the area to provide opportunities for those looking to get into the industry. The first apprentice through the scheme is expected to start with the company later this year.
Operating UK wide and providing services on a national level, to help navigate this growth and surge of new project wins, Walker Engineering is dedicated to on-going improvement, ensuring that best practice and high quality standards are the bedrock of all operations. Walker Engineering delivers mechanical and electrical fabrication, installation and maintenance, and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2024.
Andy Walker, managing director, Walker Engineering, said:
“At the close of the last financial year, we set out both a short and long term strategy to further expand the business. Throughout this time, our team has been at the forefront of the application of this plan, driving us on to succeed and grow in 2023. Thanks to the meticulous implementation of this strategy, I am proud to say that Walker Engineering’s reach is now UK-wide.
“I am extremely encouraged by the recent outcomes of these project wins – it is a great start to the year and a real testimony to the team, of which we want to expand by championing apprentices and the next generation of talent.”
